Am I Mesh Injured?

What to do if you suspect you have been injured by surgical MESH

This page is for you if you have recently learned about the adverse events occurring from mesh surgery  (please note the Australian Government has only recently responded to mesh injury in transvaginal/pelvic mesh, however Mesh Injured Australia believes this is indicative of ALL mesh implants if you are reacting to them).

Step 1.

Click on one (or all) of the links below which will take you to various documents outlining possible symptoms of mesh injury / complications:

Step 2.

What your journey and investigations may have looked like until now

Step 3.

Obtain your hospital records from the operating hospital. Click the link below to follow the guidelines to obtaining your operation record.

https://meshinjuredaustralia.org.au/tga-process/

This is essential* to understand what type of mesh is in your body and the make and manufacturer if you seek legal recourse in the future

If you have a Johnson and Johnson mesh click here as Shine are closing applications for the current class action on 9th April 2020 and you need to register to “opt out”.

Step 4.

If you are sure or suspect that you have been injured by your mesh implant it is imperative that you report this to the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), who are collecting this data about the safety of all types of mesh and they report back to the Government. Read and present your information carefully as the TGA or manufacturers representatives (via the TGA) may contact you about your report.

If you need help with this process (many of us have) please email us at  tgareporting@meshinjuredaustralia.org.au or support@meshinjuredaustralia.org.au, and one of our volunteers will assist you – you need your operation notes (the barcode of your implant) and around 15 minutes in front of your internet device.

Step 5.

If you haven’t already visited your GP, here is a brief outline of how and what to discuss to help explain your condition

https://meshinjuredaustralia.org.au/gp-visit/

If you seek to bring legal action make sure your GP notes all of your symptoms and records all of your health visits, it may help to make a timeline for ourselves of when we had surgery, what symptoms we experienced and when they occurred and what help we have sought so far.

‘Maimed for Life’ Aussie Women Break Their Silence

Big thanks to Jacqueline Mey and WHO Magazine for this story.

The three of us flew into Sydney for this interview late last year, in the wake of the class action result, with the hope that a story like this would reach many other sufferers of #mesh who may not be aware.

Since December 2019, Shine Lawyers are currently reaching out to a potential 50,000 women implanted with J&J mesh and we are seeing an influx of registrations to Mesh Injured Australia Inc, our facebook group/s, and 1800 MESHED (1800 637 433) Australian toll free line.

Please welcome all of these newcomers to our groups. Many will be overwhelmed realising after years of suffering, they may now know the possible cause to their chronic pain and symptoms.

Important message for those women who have pelvic mesh (implanted in Australia)

By |2020-01-09T09:12:04+11:00January 9th, 2020|Categories: Complications from Mesh, Mesh Injured Stories, News, Stress urinary incontinence (SUI), SUI, Uncategorized, woman|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |

Important Notice From Shine Lawyers

“In accordance with the orders of Justice Lee of the Federal Court of Australia dated 20 November 2019, Shine Lawyers required to notify all possible class members of the Claimant Registration Notice and Claimant Registration Form.

This Notice contains important information relevant to women who may be entitled to compensation in this proceeding.
To register officially in this Class Action please visit www.meshclassaction.com.au, or you can click the image.
If you need any further information please call Shine Lawyers directly on 1800 884 139.”

Note from Mesh Injured Australia

As you may already be aware, Shine Lawyers lodged a pelvic mesh class action against Johnson & Johnson on behalf of a number of women back in 2012. In November 2019, the judgement was handed down in the Federal Court Sydney. View the news coverage from the announcement (to the right of this screen) from our Youtube channel playlist.
As a result, the Court Ordered for Shine to request ALL facebook related groups to place this notice on their social media/pages. The Orders also requested the names and addresses of those who may have had a related J&J implant (per the list in the class action) through private health insurers, Commonwealth of Australia, private hospitals etc, so that Shine et al can send out this notice to anyone possibly affected. You may have received an email, letter in the mail regarding this registration process. If you haven’t and you believe you may have a tape/tvt/tvto/mesh kit etc that could be involved, please contact Shine or make registration through the links above.  It’s important to get your operation record from the hospital where you had the mesh implanted, as this will define if your mesh implant is one covered in this particular class action. Click here for guidance. We believe there may be other class actions which will evolve for other mesh types/manufacturers.
ANYONE who wishes to be considered for compensation as a result of this order/judgement, HAS to fill in the registration form (online or on paper) and return it by the due date in April.
We would recommend that you take your time, get into the headspace and plan to sit down (with a support person), and go through the registration process.
The process online is relatively easy, but it does take some time. You can’t save it and go back to it later, so it’s best to do it in one sitting or via paper. You can also ask for separate legal advice (of which you would need to organise and pay for separately).
If you are having difficulty, please call Shine 1800 884 139.
Mesh Injured Australia Incorporated is simply providing this information as requested to be displayed by the court. MIA is not financed or has any monetary connection with @ShineLawyers or any law firm. Members should make their own independent decision whether to be involved or not.
